About

Hi, I’m Christine.

I started with one small tank, one very pregnant female, and a browser full of contradictory advice. Guppy Mama is the notebook I wish I’d had that month.

A few steps ahead, not years

There is plenty of expert fishkeeping content, and much of it is excellent. But experts have forgotten what it feels like to not know whether cloudy water means you’ve killed everything. I haven’t forgotten. I was there in March.

So I write for the person in their first year: plainly, in order, with the mistakes left in. If I don’t know something, I say so. If I got it wrong, I go back and fix the lesson.

What I keep

Four tanks, all freshwater, all guppies except one very tolerant snail. A twenty-gallon long as the main colony, a ten for grow-out, a ten for the boys, and a bare five-gallon that lives in the cupboard until someone needs quarantine.

How I decide what to publish

  • I’ve done it myself, in my own tanks, at least one full cycle.
  • It holds up against two sources I trust.
  • It’s something I’d tell a friend on the phone — not a list of everything that’s technically true.

What this isn’t

I’m not a vet or a biologist, and Guppy Mama isn’t a diagnosis service. For a genuinely sick fish, an aquatic vet or a good local shop beats any website — including this one.

Everything else? Come learn with me. Start with lesson one, or say hello.
